KAJUKENBO PRAYER

Listen to the words of our Karate Prayer to help give you balance and to keep you humble.

Dear Lord we pray thee. Keep us from doing wrong throughout the day. Be beside us as we undertake these exercises. Our sole purpose is to develop our bodies, to keep mentally strong, to be morally straight. To protect ourselves and our loved ones, from dangers that are forced upon us. Help us to do the things that we should, to be kind and good to others at all times. O'mighty God we thank thee for thy care, health and strength. In the name of thy beloved Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Prof boxed out at the CMC prison in college and two years later started a club in a large garage (4000 sq ft) his landlord owned. He incorporated Kenpo (Parker), Kung Fu stylists (Shaolin), Kickboxers and Boxers. The club integrated different techniques from each art. In addition, he added small Circle Jujitsu and Chin Na into the mix. It was a club to share and learn knowledge, along with sparring different styles.

Grand Master Bono trained Kajukenbo with Great Grand Master Gaylord up until he passed in 2009. His martial arts background includes over 40 years of boxing as well as jujitsu training. Professor John is currently the President of the Kajukenbo Association of America and the San Francisco/San Jose representative for the Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do Grappling Certified Full Instructor under Larry Hartsell (JKD Grappling) Association..

We stress the four ranges of fighting, kicking, punching (boxing), trapping and grappling. Our approach is very progressive, using what works best from whatever art it's from. Kajukenbo is our base because of the toughness and tenacity it instills. We also use JKD concepts, Western Boxing, Muay Thai, Savate , Lameco, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu,Shoot , Sambo and a variety of other arts. The training is very realistic and street oriented.  If you're interested in joining you should look at the school rules, these rules are to be followed by all students.

jkd symbolJKD Concepts
Jeet Kune Do's fighting system was the first "FREE-FORM" martial art to ever be brought to martial arts. JKD is the martial art created by Bruce Lee. It is a simplistic system that allow the fighter to to be creative in his own expression of JKD. The expression of JKD is like DNA, similar to all humans but not exactly the same from person to person. The are as many expressions of Jeet Kune Do as there are practitioners. They all abide by the basic structure and guide lines set by Bruce Lee, but each adds his one individual twist to his form of Jeet Kune Do.

gloves Western Boxing

Western Boxing is the boxing you would most likely see on TV today.  Western Boxing uses nothing but punches, it utilizes no kicks, elbows, throws, or grappling.  Although it may seem limited, it teaches you how to punch and how to punch well.  A solid punch to the right place can easily knock someone out, and punches to the head are far easier to land than kicks.

Muay Thai

Any Part Of The Body Is Fair Game In Muay Thai Bout & Can Be Attacked With The Fist , Foot, Elbow & Knee. Pro Bouts Run For Five , Three Minute Rounds With Two Minute Rest Breaks In Between , The Only Protective Equipment Allowed Are Elastic Instep Anklets , A Steel Groin Cup , A Rubber Gum Shield (Optional) & Six Or Eight Ounce Gloves. Head Butts , Leg Sweeps , Hip & Shoulder Throws Are Prohibited. The Referee & Two Side Judges Keep A Scorecard, The Referee Having The Last Word As To Ring Suspensions, Disqualifications & The Revoking Of A Fighter Purse

Savate

Savate is a form of kickboxing that originated in France in the mid 1800's. Savate combines traditional western boxing with kicking and kneeing. Savate usually kicks with toes or heels (unlike the shin in Muay Thai), having the entire force of a kick focuses into a small point is very painful. Savate kicks attack targets at different angles often the foot comes in at a 45 degree, this adds extra power to the kick and basically hurts a lot more. Savate kicks are difficult to learn, but once mastered they are incredibly powerfull kicks.

Lameco Escrima

Lameco Eskrima was created by Punong Guru Edgar Sulite who studied under the great Grandmaster Illustrisimo after mastering Arnis under several famous masters.  It is a synthesis of Illustrisimo Kali, Pekiti Tirsia, De Campo Uno-Dos-Tres Orehenal and Moderno Largos styles of Kali.

La stands for Long Range.  Me stands for Medium Range.  Co stands for Short Range. Thus, Lameco Eskrima makes it a central tenet to emphasize training in all ranges.

brazilian jiu-jitsuBrazilian Jiu-jitsu

Brazilian jiu-jitsu emphasizes ground fighting. In fact, most Brazilian jiu-jitsu stylists want to take the fight to the ground, as opposed to the stand-up fighting of other fighting arts. Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners believe that most fights end up on the ground, so you'd might as well learn the most effective ground fighting techniques available.  To defeat an opponent Brazilian jiu-jitsu uses arm locks, arm bars, chokes, breaks, and submissions.

shootShoot

The martial arts/sport of Shootfighting® is a recent creation. It had its genisis less than 25 years ago when a famous German wrestler taught the art of real wrestling or "shooting", to a group of top Japanese martial artist. The wrestling they learned bore only a superficial resemblance to today's professional wrestling. Two of these Japanese martial artist, Masami Soranaka, practitioner of karate, judo and sumo, and Yoshiaki Fujiwara, a muay thai kickboxing champion and judo expert, combined their knowledge of these diverse styles and created what has come to be known as UWF wrestling or the strong style. Official matches have been held for almost 10 years and the sport's popularity has grown till it is now the third most popular spectator sport in Japan behind baseball and sumo. There are currently three main organizations sanctioning matches and teaching the style. Of these the oldest and largest is the Fujiwara Gumi (family) run by founder and former champion Yoshiaki Fujiwara. The current world champion of the Fujiwara Gumi is Miami's Bart Vale, The first foreigner (American) to reach the highest levels of the sport. Vale who coined the term Shootfighting® to describe the style, combined the wrestling and muay thai techniques he learned in Japan with his experience in American karate and kickboxing to advance the sport further. He is presently attempting to promote regular matches in Florida and California
